South Sudan is leaving its violent past behind as the country finally heads towards lasting stability.

Boasting the third-largest oil reserves in sub-Saharan Africa, South Sudan is the only mature oil producer in East Africa. The country is one of the oldest producers on the continent, with substantial proven reserves of close to 3.5 billion barrels of oil and 3 trillion cubic feet of gas.

Dr Arkangelo Okwang Oler, Director-General for Planning, Training and Research at South Sudan’s oil ministry, spoke at the recent Africa Oil & Power 2019 conference in Cape Town,  reassuring investors that now is the time to invest in the country.

Angola’s President Joao Lourenco said the country would increase its daily oil production next year by more than 35,000 barrels in a bid to revive an economy hurting from drought.

Angola’s President said output would jump from 1,401, 235 barrels per day to 1, 436,900 barrels per day.
Angola continues to heavily depend on oil, which contributes half of the country’s economic wealth, 95 per cent of exports and 80 per cent of government revenue. However, it is struggling with a biting drought that has cost both commercial and traditional cattle farmers without grazing land.

Tanzania’s natural gas prices are set to be reviewed by the Ministry of Energy as the sector undergoes a major face-lift to improve taxation and revenue collectiong.

Under the leadership of President John Pombe Magufuli, Tanzania’s extractives sector has been undergoing a major overhaul to improve taxation and revenue collection within contractual agreements concomitant to the resources extracted from the country.  These are measures necessary for a Tanzanian oil and gas success story.

Uganda oil firms which abandoned oil infrastructure projects following tax payment disagreements with the Uganda Revenue Authority, now say they are keen to resume operations.

The companies have caved in to pressure and proposed fresh dialogue to resolve the current standoff with the government, after a month of suspending all technical activities in Uganda’s budding oil and gas sector.

British multinational Tullow, French oil major Total and China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC), the joint venture partners in Uganda’s oil development, are expected to present their new position which will form a basis to start fresh negotiations.

“The idea is that we need to have continued communication with the authorities to understand each other. We respect the frustrations of government and we believe they can imagine our situation.
