Nairobi remains the most popular destination for visitors in the country, a new report shows. The capital receives the highest number of local, regional and international visitors compared to other towns, according to a report by online hotel booking site, Jovago.com.
The Hospitality Report Kenya, shows Nairobi’s hotel rooms were occupied by travellers twice as many times as hotel rooms in other major cities, including Mombasa.
The city recorded 58,071 bookings compared to Mombasa’s 24,547 bookings in 2014. Kisumu recorded 7,059 hotel bookings.
Diani Beach recorded 1,406 bookings while Masai Mara had 4,282 hotel bookings. Estelle Verdier-Watine, Jovago’s managing director for East and Southern Africa, said that Nairobi is popular among business travellers and workers coming on short assignments.
“Nairobi receives very many visitors not just from Kenya or the East African region, but also global travellers attending events and business trips,” she said on phone.
She said the capital is the first port of call for international visitors, including tourists coming on vacation. Visitors who tour Nairobi on business or for work are particular about proximity of the hotel to the location of their engagement, she said.
