NAIROBI, DEC 7—Kenya’s Energy Regulatory Commission acting director general has been confirmed.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter confirmed the appointment of Mr. Pavel Robert Oimeke on Thursday.
Oimeke, 41, has been serving the commission in an acting capacity since January.
He will now serve as a substantive director general for a period of three years with effect from August 1, 2017, according to a public notice on Friday.
Mr. Oimeke is a renewable energy and energy efficiency specialist with close to two decade of experience in the sector.
Prior to his appointment, he was the director of renewable energy at the country’s energy regulator.
Oimeke has previously worked at Finlays Kenya and Kenya Tea Development Agency ( KTDA) in research and development of renewable energy, and energy efficiency solutions for the manufacturing and tea sectors in the country.
He has previously served as a consultant for the World Bank funded multi-agency programme, Lake Victoria Environment Management Programme implemented in Kenya,Uganda and Tanzania.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Process Engineering from Moi University and a Diploma in Energy Planning and use from Life Academy, Sweden.
He is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering at the Kenyatta University.
