Kenyan woman named in new AfBD’s senior appointments

The appointment, which takes effect from 15th October 2018 will be tasked with coordinating the implementation of the Bank’s Framework for enhanced engagement and for executing the revised action plan.

A Kenyan woman is among the seven senior appointees named in the office of the President, the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Ms. Maria Mutola Mulindi is the new Director for Special Duties, Civil Society And Community-Based Organizations at the AfDB.

The appointment, which takes effect from 15th October 2018 will see the Kenyan woman be tasked with coordinating the implementation of the Bank’s Framework for enhanced engagement and for executing the revised action plan.

According to a statement from AfBD, Ms Maria brings into this role twenty years of extensive experience in managing development projects on reducing poverty and promoting food security in Africa, while leading dialogue and engagement with African Civil Society Organizations.

Maria has been the Chief of Staff and Director of Cabinet in the President’s Office since April 2017. She joined the Bank as Senior Advisor to the President on Engagement with Civil Society and Community-based organizations. In this role, she was responsible for her accountabilities included advising the President on the support required for the revision of policies, strategies and programs regarding women and other vulnerable groups. Her purview also included building wider engagement with communities in the regional member countries on matters of greater inclusiveness and people-oriented accountability.

“As Director for Special Duties, she will specifically support the strengthening of the Bank’s overall engagement with civil society and communities in East and Southern Africa.” The statement reads in part.

Maria joins a host of other six appointees sourced from across the continent. They include Oyebanji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka from Nigeria, Dr. Samantha Naidoo from South Africa, Mr. Modibo I. Toure from Mali, Mr. Modibo I. Toure from Gambia, Mr. Lassaad Lachaal from Algeria and Dr Caroline Jehu-Appiah from Ghana

Ms. Mulindi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Gender and Development from the University of Nairobi, Kenya and a Master’s degree in Strategic Management from the Brunel University, United Kingdom.
