Safaricom was the day’s main feature with 13.6 million shares traded
Market turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) rose to Ksh633 million (about US$6.3 million) on Wednesday from the previous session’s Ksh353 million (US$3.5 million) as the bourse showed positive trends into the last days of the week.
The number of shares traded stood at 20 million against 16 million posted on Tuesday, self listed firm-NSE reported.
This is despite a drop on the NSE 20 share Index which was down 9.95 points to stand at 2875.98. All Share Index NASI also shed 0.69 points to stand at 154.46 while the NSE 25 Share index lost 9.22 points to stand at 3868.61.
Telecommunication company-Safaricom was the day’s main feature with 13.6 million shares valued at Ksh364 million changing hands at between Ksh26.50 and Ksh27.00. This represented 57.57 per cent of the day’s traded value.
The banking sector had shares worth Ksh128 million transacted which accounted for 20.27 per cent of the day’s traded value. Equity Group Holdings actively moved 1.5 million shares valued at Ksh66 million at between Ksh41.65 and Ksh43.00. Co-operative Bank down 1.04 per cent to Ksh14.30 moved 2.26 million shares valued at Ksh32M.
KCB Group moved 293,000 shares worth Ksh12.7 million and closed at Ksh43.50.
Manufacturing & Allied
The manufacturing and allied sector had shares worth 113 million traded and accounted for 17.85 per cent of the day’s traded value. B.A.T was the most traded counter in this sector with 141,000 shares valued at Ksh82 million changing hands at between Ksh580.00 and Ksh590.00. E.A Breweries moved 132,000 shares worth Ksh27 million and closed at Ksh204.00.
Construction & Allied
The construction and allied sector had shares worth 13 million traded and accounted for 2.10 per cent of the day’s traded value. Bamburi Cement moved 100,000 shares worth Ksh13 million at a fairly stable price of Ksh130.00.
Commercial & Services
The commercial and services sector had shares worth 6.3 million traded and accounted for 1.00 per cent of the day’s traded value. Nation Media Group closed the day 1.26 per cent lower to Ksh59.00 moving 70,000 shares valued at Ksh4 million.
The insurance sector had shares worth 3.2million traded and accounted for 0.51 per cent of the day’s traded value. Britam Holdings exchanged 281,000 shares valued at Ksh2.6 million at between Ksh9.38 and Ksh10.00.
Under the Fixed Income Securities Market Segment (FISMS), the bond market recorded bonds worth Ksh3 billion (transacted), up from Ksh2.3 billion transacted Tuesday.
