More than five million farmers will benefit from a Sh1.55 billion fund from the MasterCard Foundation. Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, in partnership with the Kenya Commercial Bank, will run the project.
KCB chief business officer and MD for Kenya Samuel Makome, said they will provide services such as savings, insurance and credit for input and produce storage to dairy and maize farmers.
The three year project covers Kenya, Tanzania and Ghana. AGRA president Agnes Kalibata said funding remains the main challenge to farmers in Africa.
