DAR ES SALAAM : Mkombozi Commercial Bank Plc has initiated support to needy students in Kilimanjaro Region, a project that will carry them to whatever heights of education they can reach.
Mkombozi Commercial Bank Managing Director, Ms Edwina Lupembe, said here the decision comes as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR). Ms Lupembe said under its ‘Tunawajali Project’, Mkombozi Commercial Bank, has decided to support three students from every region where the bank has a branch.
She cited criteria in selecting beneficiaries as being students whose parents or guardians cannot afford costs of education but the students must have done well. “We are offering this, not because we have too much money but because we feel we need to give back to the community part of what we earned,” Ms Lupembe said.
She said the bank that was established in 2009 assigned local managers with the bank to research so as to get students who needed most the support. The chosen beneficiaries are from JK Nyerere Secondary School (Joseph Mruma), Mji Mpya Secondary School (Lucas Massawe) and Flora Kika from Mangi Sina Secondary School.
“We commit ourselves to honour invoices raised by the respective schools for these students from now on,” she said. She urged the students to work hard to excel academically.
Mkombozi Commercial Bank Plc started as an initiative of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) in 2009 to establish a commercial bank with the main objective of serving and supporting the emerging Tanzanian businesses for provision of financial services.
