The Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) has backed Tanzanian President John Magufuli’s new push to create an industrialised Tanzania.
The industrialisation agenda falls on the fifth phase of the administration’s national development strategy.
Being a key priority, SIDO said that the head of state’s industrialisation agenda will simplify the implementation of its ‘One District One Product (ODOP) strategy. The strategy launched some years ago seeks to promote one cash crop in each district in Mainland Tanzania.
“Industrialising Tanzania is everybody’s responsibility. Fortunately. The government has been improving the environment for developing and starting new industries…owners of industries and prospective ones have the responsibility to support the government’s plan by adhering to norms, regulations and procedures for starting and operating industries to produce goods that can compete in local and international markets” Omar Bakari, SIDO director, remarked. He further added that Sido would play its role by providing expertise at institutional level and from partners in various areas of industrial development
Mr Bakari continued that implementation of the plan requires establishing small and middle industries at district level all over the country by using available raw material found in those districts. This plan would improve value addition processes and employment generation which are critical for any industrial economic base nation.
He further urged various leaders and citizens at district level to work hand in hand with Sido to make sure the initiative succeeds for the benefit of all stakeholders and country at large.
