Despite the fall back in the mining sector and handed among the biggest fine ever, Acacia mining company has not been written off the books with mega investments bearing its name taking center stage.

Acacia has invested about Tshs 5.5 billion shillings into the STATCOM Centre project located in Bulyanhulu Gold Mine that will increases the quality of power supply in the region and its neighboring region – Kahama, Shinyanga, Msalala, and some parts of Geita.

Acacia in partnership with Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) commenced the construction of the STATCOM Centre in December 2016 and expected to be commissioned soon.

This is a tremendous development for local industries and businesses in the area that will benefit from stable power supply which will improve their efficiency and reducing the time lost from breakdowns of equipment.

“The fluctuation of electricity has been a challenge for a long time causing damage to machinery; the center will help to eliminate the effects of a drop-down and upturn in electricity systems of the mine and improve production activities. Local industries and residents who are using electricity in Msalala District Shinyanga region and some districts of Geita Region will also benefit from the investment,” Bulyanhulu Gold Mine Capital Projects Section Leader Jiten Divecha said.

He added that “Acacia strives to deliver shared economic benefits to its host communities and stakeholders through sustainable projects.’

During the construction of the STATCOM, members of the community near Bulyanhulu Gold Mine were provided with job opportunities.

Speaking on the opportunity, David Nyanda said, “We really appreciate the construction of this project because we have obtained job opportunities even though temporarily. We are able to earn some income to sustain our families especially now during the dry season.”
