The fourteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will be held in Nairobi, Kenya with an aim to tackle global trade and economic development issues.
The event which will bring together Heads of State and Government, ministers and other prominent players from the business world, civil society and academia will be held from July 17-22, 2016.
The week-long Conference is themed “From Decisions to Actions” and will feature ministerial debates, high-level round tables, thematic events, a World Investment Forum and a Civil Society Forum, among other events.
The quadrennial Conference will also provide a platform to discuss the most appropriate means of delivering on the post-2015 development agenda.
The forum is expected to bring up to 7,000 guests and according to Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Aden Mohamed, the country will sign a host agreement which will give a direction in terms of costs and logistics.
Mr Mohammed who was speaking to the press in Nairobi on Tuesday, said preparations to host the event were in progress under a national committee with six sub-committees led by Commerce and International Trade Permanent Secretary Chris Kiptoo.
He noted that he had a meeting with the UNCTAD secretary-general, Dr Mukhisa Kituyi and had discussions over the matter as well as launched preparations for the July meeting.
