Preparations are in final stages for a major exhibition of industrial products themed “Tanzania now we are building Industries,” in Dar es Salaam this December. The exhibition is to measure the performance of the industrial sector under the fifth-phase government.
In addressing reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Charles Mwijage, said the industrial exhibition would give a broad picture on performance of the industrial sector for the past year since the fifth phase government came to power.
“To mark one year of the fifth phase government, on December the Ministry is organising industrial exhibition, among other programmes, citizens will be able to know the efforts of the fifth phase government since it took over last year,” said the minister.
According to Mr. Mwijange, so far more than 3,800 industries have been built within a period of one year. He added that in ensuring local industries are protected, the ministry is strengthening border and port inspections to make sure no sub-standard goods enter into the market.
“As the Minister for Trade I am responsible to protect both consumers and local producers in the country, I want to assure both of them that the Ministry together with other ministries we are intensifying border patrol and inspections to make sure sub-standard goods do not cross our boundaries,” he explained.
The minister shared that Regional Commissioners (RCs) will describe various investment opportunities available in their regions, and called upon the youth to have desire to build industries. He added that there will be expertise from the ministry to mentor youth on how to start up an industry.
