Three Kenyan companies have emerged the top at the recently concluded East Africa Excellence Awards.

The event saw Safaricom get the businesses with most impact in the region while Equity and Barclays Bank were considered the most innovative financial institutions in the region.

Described as the ultimate form of recognition of the organisation’s customer excellence, the annual Excellence Awards highlight the great work being done by financial markets participants. The awards were hosted by Refinitiv, formerly Thomson Reuters Financial and Risk business.

As of 1 October 2018, the Thomson Reuters Financial & Risk business became known as Refinitiv following close of the strategic partnership transaction between Thomson Reuters and private equity funds managed by Blackstone.

According to the Managing Director for Africa at Thomson Reuters’ Financial and Risk Business Sneha Shah, What is going to drive the success and growth of our economy is committed individuals and companies that are contributing to strong and stable financial systems and institutions.

“We are very excited to be bringing the Excellence Awards for the first time in East Africa. The inaugural 2018 East Africa Excellence Awards will recognise and highlight the great work of individuals and companies who amongst many outstanding nominees were selected, by the independent judges, as the ones producing the most impact for East Africa’s financial markets.” The MD said.

The awards were first held in Southern Africa in 2017 and their success has led to them now also being hosted for the first time in East Africa in 2018. The awards honoured financial markets participants from across East Africa, including Indian Ocean Islands, who help to drive growth and efficiency, transparency and deepening in their respective countries and the region.
