Exim bank moves to fix health shortage crisis

Exim Bank Tanzania, has as invested heavily into the Tanzanian health care especially when it comes improving the healthcare delivered to women.

This is in a bid to put in check the health crisis faced by public hospitals in terms of shortage of medicine, medical supplies and beds.

The bank, has donated 40 beds and mattresses to the Sekou Toure Hospital, in Mwanza region. The Corporate Social campaign dubbed “20 years of taking care of the community” which was launched in August last year 2017.

In Tanzania, hospitals and clinics suffer from a shortage of medicine, medical supplies and beds, particularly public referral hospitals. In an attempt to address these shortages plaguing the nation, Exim Bank Tanzania, a Tanzanian bank with an unmatched international presence, has embarked on countrywide initiative of donating 500 beds and mattresses to maternity wards at public hospitals in 13 regions across the country as part of yearlong corporate social campaign aimed at celebrating 20 years of serving the Tanzanian community.

According to a statement from the bank, Sekou Toure government hospital in Mwanza is the tenth hospital to receive this donation, after Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital in Morogoro last month, Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam in March, Bombo Referral Hospital in Tanga in February, Mbeya Zonal Referral hospital in Mbeya in January, Mount Meru Regional Hospital in Arusha in December, Dodoma Referral Hospital in November, Ligula Hospital in Mtwara in October, Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar in September and Temeke Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam in August last year. The event was held at the maternity ward on the hospital grounds and was honored by the presence of the Regional Commissioner of Mwanza, Mr. John Mongella.

Mr. John Mongella, the regional commissioner of Mwanza region commended Exim Bank Tanzania for its support and urged various institutions to emulate the gesture of Exim Bank Tanzania in helping to improve the healthcare system in the country. He added, “Shortages of beds is one of the biggest challenges faced by hospitals. The donation of 40 beds and mattresses from Exim Bank will go a long way in addressing this issue”.

Speaking at the handover, Mr. Frederick Kanga, Exim Bank Human Resources Head said, “Exim bank has always recognized the important role played by the communities surrounding our area of business and it is why CSR is a very important wing at Exim Bank. We believe that we have a huge part to play in effecting positive changes in various sectors across our communities. It is with this in mind that the Bank decided to celebrate its 20 years by giving back to the community through a campaign dubbed, ’20 years of caring for the community’ in showing how thankful we are. The Bank will be donating hospital beds & mattresses to the hospitals across the country every month for a whole year.”

As part of the yearlong donation initiative “20 years of caring for the community”, Exim Bank will donate 500 beds and mattresses to hospitals in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Morogoro, Kigoma, Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Shinyanga, Dodoma, Mbeya, Mtwara, Arusha, Pemba and Ugunja.

The bank, which was recognized as Tanzania’s Best Overall Local Employer in 2017, is celebrating 20 years of success, growth and pioneering into new markets across the continent. Exim Bank (Tanzania) Limited was established in 1997 and expanded its market by opening subsidiaries in Comoros (2007), Djibouti (2011) and Uganda (2016).
