NAIROBI, KENYA, OCTOBER 5 — Bouyed by the sale of Safaricom shares, turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) rose to Ksh866 million on Thursday up from Ksh469 million recorded on Wednesday, as the market continues to record mixed performances this week.
The telecommunication company was the day’s main feature with 21.5 million shares valued at Ksh529.7 million changing hands at between Ksh24.25 and Ksh24.75.
This represented 61.10 per cent of the day’s traded value as the number of shares traded stood at 31.6 million shares against 16.2 million shares posted the previous day.
This came as market indices registered positive gains where the NSE 20 Share Index went up 15.45 points to stand at 2876.85. All Share Index (NASI) edged up 1.12 points to stand 150.52 while the NSE 25 Share Index added 14.19 points to stand at 3814.70.
The banking sector which remains key to the bourse traded shares worth Ksh264.9 million and accounted for 30.56 per cent of the day’s traded value.
Equity Group Holdings actively moved 4.5 million shares valued at Ksh186 million at between Ksh39.75 and Ksh41.00. KCB Group moved 1.6 million shares worth Ksh63.8 million and closed at Ksh29.25. HF Group down twenty cents to Ksh5.70 saw 1.0 million shares valued at Ksh5.8 million realized.
The commercial and services sector had shares worth Ksh2.5 million traded and accounted for 0.17 per cent of the day’s traded value.
Nation Media moved 30,000 shares valued at Ksh2.1 million at between Ksh69.50 and Ksh70.00. Kenya Airways which has been gaining this week was up 0.85 per cent to Ksh12.10 with 39,000 shares valued at Ksh480, 000 traded.
The energy and petroleum sector had shares worth Ksh6.6 million transacted and represented 0.76 per cent of the day’s traded value. Kenya power moved 686,000 shares valued at Ksh3.0 million at between Ksh4.45 and Ksh4.70.
KenolKobil up five cents to Ksh15.80 had 180,000 shares valued at Ksh2.8 million transacted.
The insurance sector had shares worth 9.8 million transacted and represented 1.14 per cent of the day’s value. Jubilee Holdings remained stable at Ksh473.00 with 18,000 shares valued at Ksh8.8 million traded. Britam Holdings moved 31,000 shares valued at Ksh336,000 and closed the day at Ksh10.80.
The manufacturing and allied sector had shares worth Ksh48.1 million transacted and represented 5.56 per cent of the day’s traded value.
East Africa Breweries Limited saw 200,000 shares valued at Ksh37.9 million changing hands at between Ksh186.00 and Ksh190.00. British American Tobacco unchanged at Ksh600 had 16,000 shares valued at Ksh9.9 million traded.
The bond market registered improved activity with bonds worth Ksh3.9 billion compared to 1.3 billion posted the previous session.
