It is just a few weeks to Christmas and while it is very tempting to spend all you have this season, what if you made money from it?
For the employed, this is the time you get to spend the most time away from your workstation and get paid for it in terms of ‘paid leave’ but you could maximize and capitalize on the break to be your own boss.
Here are some things you could try and do to see if it will turn your fortunes around and also to test how well you could be as a business person.
Many people like taking photos and just like them, probably this is your hobby. Interestingly, you could make money from your skill in photography especially during the Christmas season when most people want to keep memories of the places they visit, the foods they eat and the events they have.
Talking of events, weddings are some of the biggest that happen during this season and if you could get an opportunity, utilize it to the maximum.
While most weddings will require professionals, you could get your way in and be the official photographer if your passion is photography and you have some evidence to convince those getting married. And, there is no harm in trying to get business.
- Cake making
For bakers, this is a prime season when most of their services are paid for at a premium.
If you have mastered the art of mixing flours and eggs and producing mouthwatering cakes which leave good lasting memories, then you could be the one who becomes a few dollars richer when you are not working for your boss.
You could test how well your baking is by catering for your friends and their associates during this period. Who knows if this could be your calling?
Selling snacks is not for the fainthearted but when trying to make it in life, no venture is too hard to get into if there is a will.
People love travelling during the Christmas period and this could be your source of that extra dime when you are on break.
Strategically position yourself in such a way that you are in a high traffic area for your snacks to sell. Do not forget to factor in the weather aspect so that if it is cold you can offer something hot to your customers or something cold if it is a hot season.
Be hygienic, stand out and offer something that others are not offering to keep your customers coming. More like a double dose of love…
Christmas decorations are all the rave when the season kicks in and guess what, these decorations are not free.
You can become a supplier of the decorations people need to make their Christmas celebrations worth it. The decorations could be balloons, lights, flowers and even art pieces which people will find useful as accessories for their homes or events.
Know your market and offer something that is unique to leave a lasting memory. This way, you could just become the go-to person when you leave your clients satisfied.
- Selling clothes
It is not often that people get to replace their clothes but Christmas gives people a reason to upgrade their wardrobes.
Whether new or second-hand clothes from a garage sale, it does not matter much if what you have is something that can be sold to someone who needs it.
For Christmas, easy is the spirit and you can make much from it when it comes to wardrobe changes. Just know your market and its needs and voila!
- Being an MC
Events are also a big thing this season and since they need moderators, why not be a Master of Ceremonies (MC) and get paid for it?
This could be at family gatherings, weddings, church or other community events where you could bring out the shine in you. Remember, for starters, do not charge like the established MCs but make sure to get your foot in and then going by what people say thereafter, you will know if or not you can make Emceeing your thing.
In business, there is nothing that should hold you back from trying and testing things that you have a hunch they could work. It is even more prudent to make money in this season than to spend the little you have.
