NAIROBI, KENYA, AUGUST 13 ― The banking sector dominated Monday’s trading at the Nairobi Securities Exchange, as the bourse opened the week on a slow tempo with an equal to last Friday’s volume of shares being traded despite a higher value.
The NSE opened the week with a total of 10 million shares valued at Ksh524 million against 10 million shares valued at Ksh362 million posted on Friday.
The banking sector had shares worth Ksh386.1 million transacted which accounted for 73.57 per cent of the day’s traded value.
KCB Group actively moved 3.9 million shares valued at Ksh201.1 million at between Ksh50.00 and Ksh52.00.
Equity Group Holdings up one shilling and fifty cents to Ksh52.00 moved 1.2 million shares valued at Ksh66.3 million.
HF Group had 384,000 shares valued at Ksh75.7 million and closed at a stable price of Ksh197.00.
The manufacturing and allied sector had shares worth Ksh69.8 million transacted which represented 13.31 per cent of the day’s traded value.
East African Breweries down two shillings to Ksh215.00 had 323,000 shares valued at Ksh69.5 million transacted.
Telecommunication company Safaricom had 2.0 million shares valued at Ksh57.9 million changing hands at between Ksh28.50 and Ksh29.00. This represented 11.04 per cent of the day’s traded value.
The commercial and services sector had shares worth Ksh2.60 million traded and accounted for 0.50 per cent of the day’s turnover.
Nation Media moved 14,200 shares valued at Ksh1.3 million and closed at Ksh90.00. Kenya Airways unchanged at Ksh9.95 had 57,000 shares valued at Ksh570, 000.
The energy and petroleum sector had shares worth Ksh1.4 million traded and accounted for 0.28 per cent of the day’s turnover.
Kenya Power and Lighting down 0.25 per cent to Ksh6.15 moved 115,000 shares valued at Ksh713,000. Kengen moved 61,000 shares valued at Ksh405,000 and closed at Ksh6.50.
The insurance sector had shares worth Ksh2.3 million transacted which represented 0.45 per cent of the day’s traded value.
Kenya Re up 1.24 per cent to Ksh16.25 had 77,000 shares valued at Ksh1.2 million. Britam Holdings remained stable at Ksh14.10 with 37,000 shares worth Ksh525, 000 transacted.
The investment sector had shares worth Ksh1.9 million transacted which represented 0.36 per cent of the day’s traded value.
Centum gained fifty cents to Ksh34.50 with 43,000 shares valued at Ksh1.5 million transacted. Home Afrika moved 389,000 shares valued at Ksh291,000 and closed the day at Kes.0.75.
The bond market had bonds worth Ksh800.9 million transacted.
