NAIROBI, KENYA, FEB 20 — Turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) rose to Ksh1.3 billion on Tuesday, signaling increased activities occasioned by investor confidence in the markets.
This is up from the low of Ksh254 million recorded on Monday. The number of shares traded stood at 35 million against 8.8 million posted in the previous session.
The NSE Indices registered positive gains with the NSE 20 share Index adding 7.86 points to stand at 3727.33.
All Share Index (NASI) was up 1.53 points to stand at 181.74. The NSE 25 Share index gained 22.98 points to stand at 4530.28.
The banking had shares worth Ksh801 million transacted which accounted for 60.73 per cent of the day’s traded value.
Equity Group Holdings was the day’s biggest mover with 10.5 million shares valued at Ksh456 million changing hands at between Ksh43.00 and Ksh43.25.
KCB Group up twenty-five cents to Ksh45.75 moved 6.3 million shares valued at Ksh288 million.
Diamond Trust Bank moved 102,000 shares worth Ksh21 million and closed at Ksh210.00.
Telecommunication company-Safaricom’s shares accounted for 19.86 per cent of the day’s traded value.
The giant telco had 8.7 million shares valued at Ksh262 million, transacted at between Ksh29.25 and Ksh30.50
The Manufacturing and Allied sector had shares worth Ksh131 million transacted which represented 9.95 per cent of the day’s traded value.
East Africa Breweries closed 0.81 per cent lower to Ksh245.00 moving 435,000 shares valued at Ksh106.6 million.
Unga Group shares slipped by 1.16 per cent to Ksh42.50 with shares worth Ksh23 million transacted.
The Commercial and Services sector had shares worth Ksh51 million shares traded and accounted for 3.89 per cent of the day’s turnover.
Nation Media Group moved 449,000 shares valued at Ksh47 million at between Ksh103.00 and Ksh107.00.
The Energy and Petroleum Sector had shares worth Ksh49.8 million transacted which represented 3.77 per cent of the day’s traded value.
“KenolKobil was the most traded counter in this sector with 2.4 million shares valued at Ksh37.9 million changing hands at between Ksh15.20 and Ksh15.50,” NSE said in its Tuesday market report.
KenGen’s shares rose 1.82 per cent to Ksh8.35 moving 670,000 shares valued at Ksh5.6 million.
The Insurance sector had shares worth Ksh17 million traded and accounted for 1.30 per cent of the day’s turnover.
Jubilee Holdings traded 21,000 shares valued at Ksh10.7 million at between Ksh500.00 and Ksh505.00.
The Bond Market recorded improved activity with bonds worth Ksh4.3 billion transacted compared to Ksh2.9 billion posted the previous session.
