NAIROBI, KENYA, DECEMBER 18—Trading at the Nairobi Bourse has remained depressed as investors shift focus to closure of the year 2018, with most companies slowing down activities for Christmas and New Year festivities.
On Monday, the bourse opened the week with a total of 12.6 million shares valued at Ksh273 million, against 35 million shares valued at Ksh827 million posted on Friday last week.
The NSE 20 share Index was down 4.88 points to stand at 2754.30.All Share Index (NASI)shed 0.27 points to settle at 142.26. The NSE 25 Share index equally lost 23.22 points to stand at 3610.55.
The banking sector had shares worth Ksh109 million transacted which accounted for 39.96 percent of the day’s traded value.
Equity Group Holdings actively moved 2.1 million shares valued at Ksh82.8 million at between Ksh38.00 and Ksh39.00. KCB Group up five cents to Ksh39.45 moved 292,000 shares valued at Ksh11.6 million. Co-operative Bank moved 728,000 shares worth Ksh10.3 million and closed at Ksh14.05.
In the automobile and accessories sector, Car & General moved 265,000 shares valued at Ksh5 million to close the day at Ksh18.90. This represented 1.84 per cent of the day’s traded value.
The energy and petroleum sector had shares worth Ksh8.95 million traded and accounted for 3.28 per cent of the day’s turnover. KenolKobil had 229,000 shares valued at Ksh4.4 million transacted at between Ksh18.80 and Ksh19.00.
Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) closed 2.55 per cent lower to Ksh3.06 moving 1.2 million shares valued at Ksh3.6 million.
The insurance sector had shares worth Ksh1.6 million transacted which represented 0.62 percent of the day’s traded value. CIC Insurance moved 291,000 shares worth Ksh1 million and closed at Ksh3.70.
The investment sector had shares worth Ksh2.27 million traded and accounted for 0.83 per cent of the day’s turnover. Centum exchanged 85,000 shares valued at Ksh2.2 million at between Ksh25.75 and Ksh26.30.
The manufacturing sector had shares worth Ksh2.78 million transacted which represented 1.02 per cent of the day’s traded value. British American Tobacco moved 3,000 shares valued at Ksh1.5 million at a fairly stable price of Ksh500.00.
East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) down 2.91 per cent to Ksh183.50 moved 3,600 shares worth Ksh660,000.
Safaricom was the day’s biggest mover with 142 million shares valued at Ksh142 million transacted at between Ksh22.50 and Ksh23.25, representing 52.03 per cent of the day’s traded value.
The bond market had bonds worth Ksh866 million transacted.
