NAIROBI, KENYA, APR 27 — Telecommunication company-Safaricom stirred up the market during the week with 72.7 million shares valued at Ksh2 billion changing hands, as the week recorded a mixed performance in the share and bond market.
The telco’s shares traded at between Ksh28.00 and Ksh29.75. This represented 50.33 per cent of the week’s traded value.
The bourse closed the week with a total of 129 million shares valued at Ksh4.1 billion, against 123 million shares posted the previous week which however had a similar value.
The banking sector had shares worth Ksh1.4 billion transacted which accounted for 33.93 per cent of the week’s traded value.
KCB Group actively moved 13 million shares valued at Ksh694 million at between Ksh49.00 and Ksh54.00.
Equity Group Holdings down 4.41 per cent to Ksh48.75 moved 8.5 million shares valued at Ksh416 million.
Barclays Bank up 3.09 per cent closed the week at Ksh13.35 with shares worth Ksh84.6 million transacted.
The construction and allied sector had shares worth Ksh59.7 million transacted which represented
1.45 per cent of the week’s traded value.
Bamburi Cement was the most actively traded counter in this sector with 318,000 shares valued at Ksh57 million changing hands at between Ksh175.00 and Ksh180.00.
The energy and petroleum sector had shares worth Ksh81.7 billion transacted which accounted for 1.98 per cent of the week’s traded value.
KenGen closed the week 2.38 per cent higher to Ksh8.60 moving 4.5 million shares valued at Ksh39 million.
Kenya Power and Lighting shares recorded a 6.00 per cent drop to close the week at Ksh7.05.
The insurance sector had shares worth Ksh65 million traded and accounted for 1.59 per cent of the week’s turnover.
Britam Holdings moved 2 million shares valued at Ksh28 million at between Ksh12.80 and Ksh14.00.
The manufacturing and allied sector had shares worth Ksh367 million transacted which represented
8.92 per cent of the week’s traded value.
East Africa Breweries saw 1.4 million shares valued at Ksh356 million changing hands during the week at between Ksh250.00 and Ksh260.00.
The NSE 20 share was up 12.98 points to stand at 3723.30. However, the All Share Index (NASI) ended the week 1.78 per cent points lower to settle at 179.48.
The NSE 25 Share index also shaved-off 77.95 points or 1.63 per cent to settle at 4693.87.
The Bond Market equally registered reduced activity with bonds worth Ksh8.6 billion transacted compared to Ksh12.8 billion posted the previous week.
