Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich has challenged President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness plan, possibly putting it in risk.

"This massive debt forgiveness program is simply unfair, unlawful, and unwise," Brnovich said in a statement on Thursday.

The lawsuits challenging Biden's offer to cancel up to $20,000 in school debt for millions of debtors are piling up.

A conservative lawyer filed the first lawsuit on Tuesday. Six Republican attorneys general, including Iowa, Kansas, and South Carolina, sued the policy this week.

Brnovich argues that the U.S. Department of Education doesn't have the power to eliminate consumer debt without Congress.

The six states accuse the White House of exceeding its executive authority with the loan forgiveness plan.

The states say that Biden's cancellation plan is "not remotely designed to address the effects of the epidemic on federal student loan debtors"
