Gordon Moore was born on January 3, 1929 in San Francisco, California. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1950.

 He then went on to earn his PhD in chemistry and physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1954.

In 1968, he co-founded Intel Corporation with Robert Noyce. He served as the CEO of Intel from 1975 to 1987.

In 1997, he was awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation by President Bill Clinton.

 In 2001, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush.

 He was a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences.He was also a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

In 2008, he donated $600 million to Caltech, which was at that time the largest donation ever made to a university. He was a member of The Giving Pledge, a philanthropic organization founded by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.
