A woman named Dana Hyde died on March 5, 2023, when a private jet she was on experienced violent movements during descent to New Hampshire
Hyde was a former White House official who served as the head of the Millennium Challenge Corporation under President Obama
The jet was a Bombardier Challenger 300 that was flying from West Palm Beach, Florida, to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the movements were not caused by turbulence from weather, but by a malfunction of the jet’s flight control system
The NTSB said the jet’s horizontal stabilizer trim actuator moved to its full nose-down position without any input from the pilots or the autopilot
The NTSB said the pilots tried to counteract the nose-down movement by pulling back on the control column, but they were unable to regain control of the jet
The NTSB said the jet experienced multiple rapid changes in vertical acceleration, reaching up to 4.2 times the force of gravity (G) in both directions
The NTSB said Hyde was not wearing her seat belt and was thrown around the cabin, suffering fatal injuries
