Two tankers, BW Lesmes and Burri, collided in Egypt's Suez Canal. The incident was reported by ship tracking company Marine Traffic.

BW Lesmes, carrying LNG, stopped and faced north, while Burri, an oil products tanker, was moored and faced south.

The collision occurred around 19 km from the southern end of the canal at 2:55 a.m. (2355 GMT).

A time lapse video showed Burri colliding with BW Lesmes after turning sideways at 2040 GMT, then backing up.

Both ships had their last port call in Port Said. No immediate confirmation was received from the Suez Canal Authority.

The Suez Canal handles approximately 12% of global trade.

A major disruption happened in 2021 when the Ever Given container ship blocked the canal due to strong winds, causing a six-day traffic halt and global trade disruption.

Minor issues have occurred since then due to technical problems with individual ships.

Since then, minor technical problems with individual ships have caused occasional disruptions in the canal's operations.
