Enza Zaden, the Netherlands’ major seed grower, has announced the expansion of its venture in Tanzania, boasting 16,000 square meters of international vegetable breeding grounds and state-of-the-art facilities. The firm’s Chief Executive Officer made the announcement at the launch of Enza Zaden, Tanzania, in the country’s horticulture seat, Arusha City.

“Today, we operate in 26 countries, employing over 3,000 people, of these, at least 1,000 are involved in research projects working to develop new vegetable varieties,” he announced.

With the recent addition of the DRC to the East African region, landlocked countries have found an alternative port of entry in the Atlantic Ocean. The swiftness of trade with two ports of entry and the region’s strategic location will be incomparable to any other region on the continent.

The East African Federation would be the fourth largest country in both population and landmass, trailing after China, India and the United States. President Uhuru Kenyatta says that the federation would have over 300 million people.

To celebrate this year’s Day of the African Child, the NGO, Kitamu Africa is conducting a campaign to raise funds for a water project that will benefit over 50 orphans at the Canaan Children Home in Arusha, Tanzania.

The children’s center was set up and registered in 2013 by the archdiocese of KKKT (Catholic Church) to help vulnerable orphans that lost their parents to Aids and who were also unfortunately born with the virus.

“Out of the 51 children at the center, 25 of the children are living with HIV,” details Dr. Alex Lengeju, the Director of Canaan Children Home.
