A female shooter fatally shot three students and three adults at a private Christian school in Nashville, before she was shot and killed by police
The shooter was identified by police as 28-year-old Nashville resident Audrey Elizabeth Hale, who was a former student of the school
The shooting occurred around 9:30 a.m. local time at the Covenant School, which has about 200 students from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade
The victims were two teachers, one staff member, and three students aged 6, 8, and 103. Their names were released by the police as follows: Jennifer Smith, 32; David Jones, 29; Sarah Wilson, 27; Noah Smith, 6; Emma Jones, 8; and Caleb Wilson, 10
The shooter used two “assault-style” rifles and a pistol, which were legally purchased by her in the past year. She also had several magazines of ammunition and a backpack with explosives
The shooter entered the school through a side door and opened fire in a hallway and two classrooms. She then exchanged gunfire with two officers who responded to the scene
The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, but police said Hale had a history of mental health issues and had been expelled from the school in 2015 for unspecified reasons
