As tomato prices rose to over Rs 100 per Kg in Andhra Pradesh owing to the heatwave conditions and delayed monsoon, the state government has started selling tomatoes at a subsidised rate of Rs 50 per kg at the farmers’ markets (Rythu Bazaars) in Kadapa and Kurnool.
The government plans to expand the scheme to all other districts soon. Efforts are being made to ensure a consistent and improved supply of tomatoes to Rythu Bazaars in all districts in the upcoming days.

To alleviate concerns, Nanda Kishore, the CEO of Rythu Bazaars, has assured the public that information about the availability of subsidised tomatoes at Rythu Bazaars will be provided one day in advance.
This measure is intended to ensure transparency and equal access to subsidized produce.
