More than 75,000 individuals were affected by a data breach at Tesla Inc. in May.

The breach involved employee-related records and was a result of "insider wrongdoing."

The breach notification was posted by the office of the Maine Attorney General.

Among the affected individuals, nine were residents of Maine. The impacted individuals seem to be current or former employees of Tesla.

A foreign media outlet named Handelsblatt informed Tesla on May 10, 2023, that it had obtained confidential Tesla information.

The breach was the result of two former Tesla employees misappropriating information, violating Tesla's IT security and data protection policies, and sharing it with the media outlet.

Tesla filed lawsuits against the two former employees and obtained court orders to prohibit them from further using, accessing, or disseminating the data.

The lawsuits led to the seizure of electronic devices believed to contain company information.

Tesla cooperated with law enforcement and external forensics experts during the investigation.
