Indians love biryani and never miss an opportunity to order their favourite rice savoury. While the love for biryani cannot be expressed in words, Swiggy has recently revealed the statistics on how much love Indians are pouring for Biryani in their online orders.

To celebrate the International Biryani Day celebrated on July 02, the online food ordering and delivery platform has revealed that Indians have placed orders for over 76 million biryani orders i.e 7.6 crore in the last 12 months.

According to Swiggy's analysis of orders placed from January 2023 to June 15, 2023, the company reveals that there has been an 8.26 per cent growth in biryani orders in the last five and a half months compared to the same period in 2022.

There are over 2.6 lakh restaurants that offer biryani through the platform, with more than 28 thousand restaurants specialising in this dish.

From the aromatic Lucknowi Biryani to the spicy Hyderabadi Dum Biryani, and from the flavorful Kolkata Biryani to the fragrant Malabar Biryani, people across the country are placing 219 orders per minute for their favourite dish.

As for the cities with the highest number of biryani-selling restaurants, Swiggy's analysis revealed that over 2.6 lakh restaurants across the country offer biryani through their platform, with more than 28,000 restaurants specializing solely in serving biryani.

However, the company crowned Bengaluru on top, as the city has 24,000 biryani-serving restaurants. Following Bengaluru is Mumbai with over 22,000 restaurants, and Delhi with over 20,000 restaurants.

Interestingly, when it comes to the number of biryani lovers, Swiggy's data reveals that Hyderabad takes the lead in biryani consumption with a whopping 7.2 million orders till June this year. Bangalore followed with almost 5 million orders, and Chennai secured third place with close to 3 million orders.

The data further reveals that Dum Biryani is the most popular choice with over 6.2 million orders and around 85 variants. Biryani Rice follows with 3.5 million orders, and Hyderabadi Biryani has received over 2.8 million orders. It has been reported that a biryani lover in Chennai spent around Rs. 31,532 on a single order of biryani.
