LTA Research unveils Pathfinder 1, a prototype electric airship in Silicon Valley, aiming to revolutionize air travel and humanitarian aid

Pathfinder 1, longer than three Boeing 737s, uses drone technology and electric motors for climate-friendly air travel and disaster relief

The 124.5-meter airship, using stable helium and novel materials, embarks on flight tests in California before relocating to Ohio for further development

LTA Research aims to build a family of airships for disaster relief and zero-carbon passenger transportation, envisioning a new industry

The FAA issues a special airworthiness certificate for Pathfinder 1, allowing tests around Moffett Field and the San Francisco Bay

Safety remains a priority, with initial flights limited in height and manned by two pilots, demonstrating LTA's commitment to FAA regulations

Sergey Brin's funding aims to utilize airships for humanitarian aid, partnering with the nonprofit GSD and emphasizing the need for larger capacities and zero-carbon technologies

LTA Research plans to continue validating new technologies and scaling up airship production, setting sights on a future industry with improved safety and reliability.

Twelve electric motors powered by diesel generators and batteries enable vertical take-off and landing. They can propel the Pathfinder 1 at up to 65 knots (75 mph), although its initial flights will be at much lower speeds.
