The tanker was carrying gasoline and diesel fuel when it crashed and burst into flames on I-795 near Owings Mills.
No one was injured in the incident, but the fire damaged the road surface and a nearby bridge
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Maryland State Police and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police
The fire was extinguished by multiple fire departments after about an hour and a half of battling the blaze
The Maryland Department of the Environment responded to the scene to assess the environmental impact of the fuel spill and the fire
The Maryland State Highway Administration said it would take several days to repair the damaged road and bridge, and advised drivers to avoid the area or use alternate routes
The crash was similar to another tanker fire that happened on March 4 on US Route 15 in Frederick, Maryland, about 50 miles away from Friday’s incident
