The report claimed that South Africa houses at least 490 tech startups that employ over 11,000 people. It further added that South Africa’s tech industry received US$993,684,600 in funding between January 2015 and May 2022. This substantial figure outpaced Kenya and was slightly below Nigeria.

SA’s digital transformation has encompassed multiple sections of the tech world, ensuring it maintains an all-rounded approach. According to the report, SA’s public sector spent over $3.5 billion on digital technologies between 2018 and 2021.

In addition, in February 2022, the Department of Public Service Administration issued the Public Service Cloud Directive to support cloud-based technologies. Its government has also implemented several policies like the National Development Plan, which focuses on eliminating poverty. The strategy contains a section that emphasizes the need for ICT-skilled personnel.
