  • Participating startups also receive valuable insights through the panel discussions and specialized workshops during the event, enabling them to achieve rapid business growth.

Early next month, the Annual Investment Meeting 2023 (AIM Global 2023) will be hosting the fifth edition of its Startup Pitch Competition, further solidifying the platform’s commitment to support innovation and entrepreneurship by offering startups a chance to seek capital and mentorship.

The global forum offers a premier platform for startups from around the world to showcase their best business ideas and attract financial support.

Some of the focus areas that technology based startups feature are Edtech, Green Tech, Retail Tech and E-commerce, FinTech, Health Tech, Cybersecurity, Gov Tech, AR & VR, Metaverse, Food Tech and Agri Tech, Mobility, and Deep Technology.

Participating startups also receive valuable entrepreneurial insights through the panel discussions and specialized workshops hosted during the event, enabling them to achieve rapid business development and international exposure.

Some of the startups competing this year include:  Vivity AI, Jchi Global, Osmium, Caspian Container Company, AAH Digital Health Center, O7 Therapy, Augmented Knowledge Corp., Swiss NeWater, TRAI, PNW Innovations Program, iEPM JSC Company, InovaReal, WUZO, Vitiport, Palogen, Alder Holdings, and Nikelle, Zephframe. 

Joberty, Livesilver Consulting, Bricks, ezClinic, Innova Beyond Digital, Mo Ambulance, BEANZ, HechicerIA, Monak Inc., Vesti, Skyptop, YAFRICA INVEST, Famunera, Presto App, Knowlepsy, DM World ME FZE, Mocasa, Cycled Technologies, Libas, EggLogics, Turant Inc., OBORTECH, Tomoru, IceCase, Baytuki, Dresos, Silifarm Technologies Pvt Ltd, D-One, Geordana, Logicboots, and AESA Energy among other enterprises will also be competing for financing at the global forum. 

AIM Startup Pitch Competition also has its partners – Community Partners, Accelerator Partners, Incubator Partners, and Venture Capital/Angels Network Partners – all of whom play important roles in supporting startups and helping them to succeed.

The “2022 Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER 2022),” released by Startup Genome and the Global Entrepreneurship Network, showed $6.4 trillion in global startup economy value creation. The report noted that investments in African tech startups (excluding MENA countries) in 2021 reached a total of $1.6 billion, a 113 percent  increase from the year prior.

According to the report “Fintech is the continent’s most successful sub-sector, accounting for $571 million in funding and producing all three of the region’s unicorns.” During the GSER 2022 time period, two of the three unicorns — Flutterwave and OPay — are from Lagos, making it the most successful startup ecosystem in the region. The third unicorn is Dakar-based Wave Mobile Money.

“Successful local founders are putting their support behind startups, further accelerating the rapidly growing African startup ecosystem. Governments throughout Africa are also recognizing the potential for the tech industry and have begun taking concrete steps to show support. The Nigeria Startup Bill aims to create clear and thoughtful regulations that will help boost the tech ecosystem and solidify the potential of the digital economy,” said the latest Global Startup Ecosystem Report..

This year’s Annual Investment Meeting, now in its 12th edition, is supported by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and is taking place next month at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre between May 8 and 10th. 

Anchored on the theme “The Investment Paradigm Shift: Future Investment Opportunities To Foster Sustainable Economic Growth, Diversity and Prosperity,” AIM Global 2023 has undertaken several innovative and technologically driven initiatives as part of its mission to build a roadmap for the global economy by putting the five key pillars front and center. 

These include startups, foreign direct investment, small and medium enterprises, future cities, and foreign portfolio investments, all of which are focused towards stimulating local and international economic growth.
