Who is Othman Benjelloun

Othman Benjelloun is a Morrocan national born in 1931 in Casablanca, Morocco, Morocco. He is the president and CEO of Moroccan Bank for External Trade (BMCE Bank) which has a presence in more than 20 African countries making him one of Africa’s richest men.

A family man with two children, he is currently listed as the richest person in Morocco. Othman Benjelloun was born to a wealthy family that owned a huge Moroccan insurance company.

Today, that insurance company is called RMA Wataniya and is one of the largest financial institutions in North Africa.

He is also the head of FinanceCom which among other things is part of a project to develop a multibillion-dollar tech city in Tangiers that is expected to host 200 Chinese companies and truly deserved the title of, one of the wealthiest men in Africa.

The holding company FinanceCom has interests in telecommunications, airlines and also in information technology. Mr Benjelloun is also a member of the International Councillors that is headed by Dr. Henry Kissinger, at the Center for Strategic International Studies (CSIS, Washington, D.C.).

Benjelloun was also awarded the title Officier de l’Ordre de Trône du Royame du Maroc, Commander of the Swedish Royal Order of the Polar Star, and decorated with the Medal of Commander of the National Order of the Lion of the Senegalese Republic.

BMCE Bank Foundation, which he created in 1995, with two main priorities; the promotion of education in rural areas, through the implementation of the Medersat.com Program, and environmental protection.

Othman Benjelloun is a Moroccan businessman who has a net worth of $2.4 billion His business career in banking is estimated to be worth $4 billion and even that is only based on its market

As for who is who in Morocco, Benjelloun beat former prime minister Abdelilah, who has an estimated net worth of $500,000. Likewise, he only came behind King Mohammed VI who tops the list with an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion.

“Pan-African multi-national institutions like ours have a responsibility to carry out philanthropic initiatives as an integral part of their corporate social responsibility and their strategic vision,” he said in a speech as he was awarded the 2019 Middle East Institute Visionary Award at MEI’s 73rd Annual Awards Gala on November 12 in Washington, DC.

The philanthropists said, “It is our belief that education forms the bedrock of every culture and every civilization. We also believe that education should take root at its very source in early childhood. And that is why BMCE Bank Foundation has established a program of reading and managing rural schools in Morocco and in Africa.”
