Further showcasing its ambition, DP World has set a medium-term goal to achieve a handling capacity of 100 million TEUs annually, contingent on market demand. This expansion strategy aligns with projections indicating that global container throughput is set to escalate to 932 million TEUs by 2025, a significant leap from the 858 million TEUs recorded in 2021.

Earlier in 2023, in collaboration with the Somaliland government, DP World inaugurated the Berbera Economic Zone. This initiative and the Berbera Port will transform the region into a prominent trade nexus serving the Horn of Africa.

Reflecting on the investment in Tanzania, Professor Makame Mbarawa, Tanzania’s Minister of Transport, emphasized the value DP World brings. He remarked, “With DP World’s expertise, the port will play a crucial role in fostering employment opportunities across various sectors, including transportation, distribution, and supply chain. Notably, the Tanzania Ports Authority will hold a stake in the port concessionaire, ensuring job security for its employees”.
