From 2001, China has funded over 50 development projects in Rwanda including $160 million debt cancellation, Rwanda sole cement factory, $219 million interest free loan for rehabilitation of Kigali road network.
Benard Makuza, the Rwanda’s Senate president said, “We emphasized that our cooperation and relation are based on mutual respect, no plans imposed on us. So we as a country have our own interests.”
Pan Hejun, the China’s ambassador in Rwanda insisted that unlike western powers, China’s support to Rwanda has no string attached and is solely based on proposals put forward by Rwanda.
Currently, C&H one of the China’s biggest garment firms, is setting up a factory in Kigali with the expectation of over 3000 new employment.
