“Many ‘bodaboda operators are simply hired as casual labourers – riding motorcycles that do not belong to them, which means that despite their diligence, they all end up being poor because the money they generate end up in their employers’ pockets,” pointed out Ms Mhagama, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled).
Ms Jenista Mhagama, said in Arusha recently that a new service is about to be launched through the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) scheme, through which a special loaning initiative targeting the youth will be established.
Plans are underway to empower the youth with soft loans to buy their own motorcycles so that they may shift from being exploited. They would also be able to contribute to the national coffers through official taxation.
