Tanzania and India economic ties are set to see sharp growth under Dr John Magufuli presidency. The High Commissioner of India to Tanzania, Mr Sundeep Arya, made the statement in Dar es Salaam yesterday when officiating at the Promotion Programme for India Food Products in the country.
Mr Arya gave the reason for sharp economic growth as large business companies from India are coming to Tanzania to engage in business development, a move that would see more business and economic ties between the two countries.
He said plans were underway to create an inviting business environment, ensuring duty free imports, reducing business fees, and acquiring visas free for Tanzanians business people in order to encourage trade development between Dar and New Delhi.
He observed that Tanzania market has to be sensitised as it has a huge potential and Indian exporters should take advantage of the country. The high commissioner noted that the Tanzania is the second largest exporter to India and the trend is set to increase further.
The General Manager of Indian Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APED), Mr Shri Nayyar, said export of Indian products to Tanzania in 2015/16 stood at 29.02 US million dollars.
