With Kenyan Telcos investing more in data than voice, Airtel Kenya on Wednesday unveiled a new tariff offer which cuts talk time charges across networks by half.
The new talk time charges offer a 50 per cent saving from the current on-net and off-net calls, without any conditions. This allows Airtel customers to make calls for longer for the same amount in the previous system.
New Airtel customers will have the 2bob offering as their default tariff while existing customers have to dial *544*2# to opt in.
Airtel Kenya CEO Prasanta Das Sarma noted: “We are delighted to be making history by introducing this new unique tariff that gives double the value to the customers as now they can talk twice as much while experiencing unmatched high quality on our network.”
In the early 2000s, calls were charged at per minute billing rates of as high as Sh50 which has dropped to the current talk time rates of Sh4.
A Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) statistics report covering between January and March 2018 shows that Airtel Kenya, which just recently partnered with Jumia, increased its local mobile voice traffic up from 2.5 billion minutes to 3.6 billion minutes recorded during the previous quarter.
At the time, the telco gained 1.3 million mobile subscriptions during the period under review.
Airtel Kenya was leading its rivals in a Net Promoter Score (NPS) measure of customer experience. In the m-Survey, Airtel Kenya is the number one brand preferred by customers in the telecommunication sector.
“The reported outcomes of the NPS measure of customer experiences is a true testament of the value we place in ensuring that our customers’ enjoy par excellence services and that our products and services meet their various communication needs,” Prasanta added.
Airtel Kenya’s customer base continues to grow with products and services such as Unliminet and Amazing Data Bundles on its 4G network.
