Safaricom was the day’s biggest mover with 13.9 million shares
Turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) surged on Thursday to Ksh892 million (US$8.9 million) from the previous session’s Ksh405 million (US$4million), as the market recorded increased activities across key counters.
Telecommunication company–Safaricom was the day’s biggest mover with 13.9 million shares valued at Ksh361 million (US$3.6million) changing hands at between Ksh25.95 and Ksh26.50. This accounted for 40.47 per cent of the day’s traded value.
This came as the number of shares traded closed the day at 33.6 million against 8.57 million posted on Wednesday.
The NSE 20 share Index, which tracks the 20 most active companies, was however down 38.19 points to stand at 2894.20. All Share Index (NASI) equally dropped 2.03 points to stand at 152.56. The NSE 25 Share index also shaved-off 31.99 points to stand at 3814.13.
The banking sector had shares worth Ksh283 million (US$2.8million) transacted which accounted for 31.79 per cent of the day’s traded value. KCB Group actively moved 2.7 million shares valued at Ksh115 million at between Ksh41.30 and Ksh42.05.
Equity Group Holdings down thirty-five cents to Ksh41.15 moved 1.9 million shares valued at Ksh79.6 million. Standard Chartered Bank moved 159,000 shares worth Ksh31 million and closed at Ksh195.00.
Commercial & Services
The commercial and services sector had shares worth Ksh98 million (US$979,510) traded and accounted for 11.07 per cent of the day’s turnover. Scangroup recorded a 8.33 per cent decline to close the day at Ksh11.00 with shares worth Ksh91 million.
Nation Media Group slipped by 3.59 per cent to Ksh60.50 with shares worth Ksh4 million realized.
Manufacturing & Allied
The manufacturing and allied sector had shares worth Ksh131 million (US$1.3million) transacted which accounted for 14.73 per cent of the day’s traded value. East Africa Breweries Limited saw 605,000 shares valued at Ksh116 million changing hands at between Ksh185.00 and Ksh195.00.
British American Tobacco closed the day 1.32 per cent lower to Ksh600.00 with shares worth Ksh13.6 million transacted.
In the bond market, bonds worth Ksh2.59billion were transacted as the platform with the market remaining active since January.
