KENYA, APR 13 — The Nairobi Securities Exchange week on week turnover rose to Ksh3.1 billion on a volume of 84 million shares as the bourse closed the week on a strong note.
This is up from Ksh2.8 billion on 84 million shares posted the previous week.
The banking sector accounted for 53.88 per cent of the week’s traded value with shares worth Ksh1.7 billion transacted.
Equity Group Holdings was the biggest mover during the week with 19.9 million shares valued at Ksh1.1 billion changing hands at between Ksh54.00 and Ksh57.00.
Barclays Bank up five cents to Ksh13.00 moved 19 million shares valued at Ksh249 million. KCB Group slipped by 2.78 per cent to close the week at Ksh52.50 with shares worth Ksh234 million transacted.
The telecommunication sector, where Safaricom trades solely, had 17.6 million shares valued at Ksh560 million transacted at between Ksh31.00 and Ksh32.50. This represented 17.60 per cent of the week traded value.
The construction and allied sector had shares worth Ksh298 million transacted which represented 9.36 per cent of the week’s traded value.
Bamburi Cement was the most traded counter in this sector with 1.7 million shares valued at Ksh294 million changing hands at between Ksh173.00 and Ksh182.00.
The energy and petroleum sector had shares worth Ksh70 million traded and accounted for 2.21 per cent of the week’s turnover.
Kenya Power and Lighting moved 3.5 million shares valued at Ksh27 million at a fairly stable price of Ksh7.70.
KenolKobil down 1.12 per cent to Ksh17.60 moved 1.2 million shares valued at Ksh20.6 million.
The insurance sector had shares worth Ksh39 million transacted which represented 1.23 per cent of the week’s traded value.
Britam Holdings closed the week 2.38 per cent higher to Ksh12.90 moving 1.3 million shares valued at Ksh17 million.
The investment sector had shares worth Ksh30.6 million traded and accounted for 0.96 per cent of the week’s turnover. Investment firm-Centum declined by 2.25 per cent to close the week at Ksh43.50 with shares worth Ksh29 million.
In the manufacturing and allied sector, shares worth Ksh432 million were transacted which represented 13.56 per cent of the week’s traded value.
East Africa Breweries actively moved 1.6 million shares valued at Ksh411 million at between Ksh250.00 and Ksh253.00.
“The bond market witnessed improved activity with bonds worth Ksh11 billion transacted compared to Ksh7.3 billion posted the previous week,” the NSE noted in a report.
The NSE 20 share was down 15.58 points to stand at 3805.23. All Share Index (NASI) shed 3.51 points or 1.80 per cent to settle 191.35. The NSE 25 Share index shaved-off 44.81 points to stand at 4947.58.
