Liquid Intelligent Technologies has acquired Telrad, an Israeli-based technology firm, at an undisclosed amount.

In a statement seen by The Exchange Africa, Liquid Intelligent said it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the company and said the move would complement its operations.

Liquid Intelligent described Telrad as an innovative technology business with an extensive B2B offering and said it would add to its infrastructure and digital solutions offerings.

“Telrad provides and maintains high-quality technology products and services for global business and governments. The company develops innovative technology solutions to business areas including networking, cyber security, cloud infrastructure, data centres, information technology, geoinformatics, and education,” Liquid Intelligent said.

Telrad would further bring its differentiated technology solutions to match Liquid’s, which includes a unique, integrated platform of digital infrastructure and services.

The acquisition will also strengthen Liquid’s B2B product segments and geographic reach, leveraging Telrad’s presence in 13 countries across the Middle East, South America, the United States, Eastern Europe and Asia.

Commenting on the acquisition, Nic Rudnick, Group Chief Executive Officer of Liquid, said Telrad’s advanced proprietary technology in cyber security, data centres and wireless access technology would be a great asset to Liquid’s digital solutions.

“Together, we will be able to leverage our pan-continental infrastructure to scale innovative technology solutions and expand the breadth of our digital services offerings across and beyond Africa,” he said.

At the same time, Telrad Chief Executive Officer, Moti Elmaliach, said the company would leverage Liquid’s expertise across the full technology value chain, from the subsea cable to the last mile.

“This is an exciting step for Telrad, our team and the customers we serve.”

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including Telrad shareholder approval.

RAHA rebrands to Liquid Intelligent

The acquisition comes barely two months after Tanzanian company RAHA Liquid Telecom rebranded to Liquid Intelligent Technologies.

At the time, the company said the move was part of the extensive business transformation from being just a telecommunications service provider to a full one-stop-shop technology group for local businesses.

The company said RAHA’s rebrand to Liquid Intelligent Technologies highlighted the organisation’s commitment to digitally transform the continent through its Cloud business, Cyber Security services, and its existing telecoms and connectivity capability.

Denny Marandure, CEO for Liquid Intelligent Technologies Tanzania, said the evolution of the RAHA Liquid Telecom brand to Liquid Intelligent Technologies would open up numerous opportunities and was a step towards the creation of a digitally-led economy.

“Liquid has always believed that Public-Private partnerships are critical for economic development,” he said.

Telesat and Liquid collaborate

In a related story, Liquid Intelligent recently announced a strategic cooperation agreement to explore reciprocal go-to-market strategies with Telesat, a renowned innovative satellite operator.

As part of the agreement, the companies said they would closely collaborate on the commercial and technical aspects of integrating the Telesat Lightspeed enterprise-grade, high-throughput, low-latency satellite network with Liquid’s global value-added services network.

The integration would also enable the expansion of Liquid’s enterprise portfolio offerings, including next-generation cloud services, managed security services, business Wi-Fi and data centre connectivity.

Telesat would also explore combining Liquid’s landing stations, Points of Presences (PoPs), site hosting, management services, and fibre network as part of its global terrestrial infrastructure that seamlessly integrates with the Telesat Lightspeed satellite network.

“Liquid’s terrestrial infrastructure in Africa is second to none, from the largest fibre network spanning over 100,000 kilometres to state-of-the-art teleports and access to diverse points-of-presence within the continent,” said Glenn Katz, Telesat’s Chief Commercial Officer.

“We’re eager to explore the synergies between our company’s offerings, with confidence that we will establish a ‘win-win’ for our organisations and the future of connectivity for Africa.”
