    Investments in Tanzania’s tourism sector

    Tanzania’s tourism is growing, and to meet this growth, the government has announced some 179 investment sites earmarked for the construction of accommodation facilities.

    Announcing the country’s tourism hub of Arusha earlier this week, Deputy Conservation Commissioner of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Mr Iman Nkuwi, said the government is committed to attracting local and foreign investors.

British actor Idrissa Akuna Elba alias Idris Elba, plans to open a major film studio in Tanzania after holding initial talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Tanzanian's Director of Presidential Communications, Zuhura Yunus, recently made this announcement during a media briefing session on the outcome of President Hassan's trip to the 53rd World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

"The president met with Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina, and they are keen to invest in a film studio in Tanzania," said Yunus.

"Discussions on the project have just begun, and if successful, the project will help not only Tanzania but also Eastern and Central Africa," she added.

Similarly, as the country took internal measures to help the sector recover, the entire region, under the East African Community (EAC) moved to do the same. The EAC’s Sectoral Council on Tourism and Wildlife Management recently approved what it termed, the EAC Regional COVID-19 Tourism Recovery Plan.

Under this recovery plan, the EAC looks to work collectively towards the recovery of tourism in the region by supporting measures already adopted by individual countries in the bloc. A key agreement here was harmonization of guidelines to restore tourism and hospitality.

The Council approved the draft regional guidelines which are meant to build coherence in the measures that individual countries take to revive tourism. The Council insisted that if they work under the same guidelines then they will be able to earn trust and confidence of international tourists.…
