Tanzania has marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its inaugural Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling station in the port city of Dar es Salaam. The commissioning ceremony, overseen by Dr. Doto Mashaka Biteko, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Tanzania, celebrated the joint investment by TAQA Dalbit, a tie up between TAQA Arabia and JCG Oil & Gas.
“We are on the cusp of a transformative shift in Tanzania’s energy landscape. With the dedication and foresight of industry leaders like TAQA Dalbit, we are ushering in an era of sustainable energy solutions,” noted the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy. He emphasized the station’s significance in demonstrating Tanzania’s technological prowess and commitment to a sustainable, greener, and economically efficient future.
TAQA Arabia, JCG eye 12 CNG filling station in Tanzania
The “Master Gas” CNG filling station, the first of 12 planned stations, boasts a capacity of 11,000 KG of CNG, serving well over 800 vehicles daily. The station, located at the Pugu Road-Airport Area in Dar es Salaam, includes a conversion center capable of converting 1,000 vehicles per year.
Pakinam Kafafi, CEO of TAQA Arabia, highlighted that CNG is on average 50 per cent cheaper for consumers than liquid fuel and significantly cleaner. Vehicles powered by CNG emit about 25 per cent less CO2, contributing to Tanzania’s consumption of clean, environmentally friendly energy.
JCG Oil & Gas, part of the Janus Continental Group (JCG), expressed its pleasure in collaborating with TAQA Arabia and the Tanzanian government, emphasizing the importance of natural gas as a sustainable alternative energy source.
Rikin Shah, Group CEO of JCG, highlighted that the provision of a combination of natural gas and traditional fuels aligns with their vision of building a sustainable future.
