Water sector in Tanzania stands to get a huge face-lift, following a move by the Tanzanian government experts to partner with Poland government,seeking to amend the water sector in the country.

On September 20^th, Deputy Minister of Water, Juma Aweso who led the meeting along-side Poland government experts in capital city Dodoma, stated that: the meeting sole focus is to explore various areas to for improve , primarily wastewater infrastructures, energy demands, clean water supply, and management.

On September 17^th, Tanzania via Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) and Germany (German Corporation for International Cooperation -GIZ) have entered into an agreement in amending Tanzanian graduates’ employability via a special project named: Employment for Development.

The boost comes forth to advance youth socio-economic potentials in developing their respective economies and the nation at large. This is reflected in the context of high rates of annual graduates versus available positions in the formal sector.

Available data show, over 900,000 youth enter the job market per year in Tanzania, but only 50,000 to 60,000 formal sector jobs are created yearly. Leaving rather many graduates unemployed, this goes along with the unemployment rate in Tanzania which stands at 9.7 per cent.

Vodacom Tanzania Plc – the leading and fastest mobile data network in Tanzania, has recently paid its equity shareholders $23.7 million in dividends.

Land owners in Tanzania can now channel the payment of their bills via Airtel Tanzania – mobile money platform – Airtel Money.

The partnership was officiated on September 9th, in Tanzania’s capital , Dodoma by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Settlement Development, Hon. William Lukuvi and Airtel Tanzania Corporate Communications and Regulatory Affairs Director, Beatrice Singano.

Airtel Tanzania which holds over 11 million customers which translates to 26 per cent of subscription market share, will be offering seamless utility services on land bills payment to millions of landowners across Tanzania via mobile phones.

Further, the telecommunications firm has been garnering billions from its platform Airtel Money which has more than 4.19 million accounts national wide, equivalent to 18 percent of the market share, revealed by Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority, latest statistics.

The anticipated East African Crude Pipeline project (EACOP) involving Tanzania and Uganda, has just been postponed by oil-goliath Total SA until further notice.

The reason given for the shelving of the project is due to a broken deal pertaining Tullow Oil Company failure to sell its stakes to Total SA and China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC), which occurred last week.

According to Reuters, a Ugandan official cited the project halt of the costly $3.5 billion with 1445km long, featured some marred issues, involving a taxing dispute with Uganda authorities.

“All East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) activities including tenders have been suspended until further notice because of the collapse of the deal” the official commented, under conditions of anonymity adhered.

Farmers in Tanzania can now access cheaper fertilizer for farm-production as Ministry of Agriculture reduces fertilizer costs.

In a press conference, on August 28^th, the sector Minister Hon. Japhet Hasunga, highlighted the Tanzanian Bulk Procurement System (BPS) which he said operates on a competitive basis, said that the adjustment of the prices formula serves farmers’ interests.

Currently, fertilizer pricing will be based on a different formula, triggered by 12 percent decrease of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer (a favorable input in maize production in Tanzania) to the source, the government also revised pricing formulas within farming year 2017/2018 and 2019/2020 respectively.

Across regions in Tanzania, 3.4 to $ 4 are the prices per 50 kg DAP-fertilizer bag, equivalent to 13 to 17 percent decrease. A 25kg fertilizer bag is now selling at $2.17 to $2.61 equal to 14 to 19 percent decrease respectively.

In a country that collects approximately US$ 6 billion in tax revenue per year, the gaming industry(casino gambling, sports betting, lottery, and slot machines) might come in handy to Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) when seeking taxes, even the Gaming Board of Tanzania, Director General, James Mbalwe affirms the sectors stake into the economy, during an interview with a local media outlet.
