Art Master Africa is an annual competition that is open to talent across the Middle East and Africa (MEA). The competition debuted in 2017 in South Africa. Following its success, Art Master Africa expanded into the African region in 2019 and into the Middle East in 2021.  

Artists can enter the competition by submitting up to three original artworks of what Celebrating Africa means to them at www.bicartmaster.com. Submissions will be reviewed and shortlisted by a panel of judges including artists, art professors, art collectors, and winners from the 2019 and 2021 competitions – Gayi Eric and Oscar Ukonu. The submission phase will run until August 31, 2022. Once the judging phase is completed in September, winners will be announced and celebrated.

Over the course of 1 month, 170 chamas in and around Nairobi were engaged in a programme entitled ‘Mama ni Mwangaza’ aimed at proving the cost-effectiveness, safety and efficiency in using a BIC lighter vs using matches.

After this, a competition was held in which each chama had to spread the word and explain what they had learned to friends and acquaintances who would, through a USSD code, respond to questions and award that chama points.

Chamas earned points for spreading the word and sharing what they had learned with friends and family. The three chamas received cash prizes to support their community projects.…

How Bic is capturing young entrepreneurial minds in Kenyan schools

Bic, the French manufacturer of pens has been running a programme among Kenyan schools that aims to strengthen the entrepreneurial skills of young minds and at the same time helping promote conservation spirits.

The BIC Education Challenge launched late last year as a partnership between BIC East Africa, the BIC Corporate Foundation, and Enactus Kenya. The challenge which focuses on fostering better learning conditions by promoting social entrepreneurship and innovation in education saw submissions from students from all over the country. Five shortlisted projects were invited to present in front of a panel of BIC experts at the BIC East Africa headquarters in Kasarani.

The competition is supported by Enactus, the world’s largest experiential learning platform dedicated to developing the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and social innovators. BIC continues African growth with acquisition of Nigerian outfit

Societe Bic, the global owner of the Bic brand has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Lucky Stationery Nigeria Ltd (LSNL). The transaction has been reviewed and approved by the Nigerian Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (“FCCPC”). The closing is expected end of 2019.

LSNL is Nigeria’s number one Writing Instruments manufacturer, with approximately 5 million euros in Net Sales and approximately 30% market share in volume. Its main Writing Instrument manufacturing facility is currently located in Ilupeju-Lagos and will be relocated to a new modern facility north of Lagos in Shagamu.

BIC has been operating in Nigeria for more than forty years through a distribution partnership with CFAO – Nipen. LSNL’s brand, product portfolio, and distribution network will strengthen BIC’s current position in Nigeria.
