South Africa says Russian President Vladimir Putin will skip planned BRICS summit in Johannesburg next month because of his ICC arrest warrant. South Africa, which was facing a major diplomatic challenge on whether to arrest Putin, says it has requested the Russian President to stay away from the summit.

Putin was charged with war crimes by the ICC in March for the kidnapping of children from Ukraine. Since then, Putin has been avoiding travelling to all nations that are party to the court’s treaty.

South Africa is expected to announce an investment plan of US$ 8 billion clean energy transition plan at COP27

The goal of JETP is to help South Africa decarbonise and switch to renewable energy for its power needs as aligned in the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution emissions goals.

Through the program, South Africa will mobilise an initial commitment of $8.5 billion for the first phase of financing, which has now been secured and whose distribution plan will be announced next month in Egypt at the COP27.

“The Partnership is expected to prevent up to 1-1.5 gigatonnes of emissions over the next 20 years and support South Africa to move away from coal and to accelerate its transition to a low emission, climate resilient economy,”  reports the European Commission.…

South African Airways

President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta of Kenya has proposed a commercial partnership between Kenya Airways and South African Airways.

Speaking on Wednesday August 11, 2021 in Mombasa during a virtual meeting with South African Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Ms Naledi Pandor, President Kenyatta said that there was need for Kenya and South Africa to deepen their economic political collaboration.

This, according to the Kenyan head of state will help the two nations see how they can share their ideas and experiences with the rest of the continent.

The virtual meeting was also attended by Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo.

Kenya-South Africa Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC)

President Kenyatta during the meeting called for the elevation of the Kenya-South Africa Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) so as to deepen bilateral ties between the two countries.
