Russia exploits Djibouti’s port gaps to tighten grip on Sudan’s gold

  • Over half of Sudan’s gold is smuggled out of the country with the proceeds going to finance internal conflict.
  • Last year, Sudan’s Central Bank banned the export of gold by government agencies and foreigners, individuals, and companies.
  • The directive, however, excluded concession companies operating in mining.

Lack of a well-coordinated management in the port of Djibouti is turning out to be a benefit for Russia, which is expanding its influence over Sudan’s gold reserves while solidifying its superpower standing in the Middle East.

These revelations are in a new report published by the Pangea-Risk, a specialist intelligence company. The report is offering analysis and forecasts on political, security, and economic risk in Africa and the Middle East.

Africa: Bastion of hope for Putin’s Russia economy

Again, the blatant abuse of, and racism against Africans in Ukraine is another knocker that will not see Africans get swayed easily since they feel they are still being treated like lesser humans.

For America and its allies to gain Africa’s support on any agenda they have, they have to do a lot more to convince Africans than they have had to prior to the covid-19 menace and the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

It is evident that the US, Europe and their allies do not care much for Africa. During the pandemic, the US, Europe and their allies hoarded vaccines and denied the continent the opportunity for equal and timely administration. This, however, was a blessing in disguise in that the vaccines have largely proven not to be effective. A win for Africa!
