The aviation industry in Kenya has recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic that led to the halting of operations as planes were grounded to curb the spread of the virus.

Data by IATA revealed that global airlines suffered cumulative losses of almost $190 billion (KSh 22.5 trillion) between 2020 and 2022.

In Kenya, local airlines were not spared, but the resumption of flights provided a ray of hope.

The survey showed mobile phone subscribers stood at 46 per cent in Sub-Saharan Africa, while smartphone adoption was at 64 per cent. This is expected to grow to 50 per cent and 75 per cent respectively by 2025.

“By the end of 2020, 495 million people subscribed to mobile services in Sub-Saharan Africa, representing 46 per cent of the region’s population – an increase of almost 20 million from 2019.

With more than 40 per cent of the region’s population under the age of 15, young consumers owning a mobile phone for the first time will remain the primary source of growth for the foreseeable future. In a new report, the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) has revealed the richest counties in Kenya that contribute the highest share to the national cake.

The government agency stated the top five wealthiest counties of Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Meru contribute 46.9% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
