An Aquaculture Regulatory Committee, which will be the main body to review and recommend aquaculture license applications in Seychelles, is expected to be set up in preparation for the launch of this new industry later this year.

The committee will be mandated to make decisions on actions to be taken against non-adherence of the regulations and standards of the sector.

Aubrey Lesperance speaking to the local media recently said that the Aquaculture Department of the Seychelles Fishing Authority was finalizing its administrative procedures and documentation in preparation for the tentative launch of the sector in a few months after consultations with the Ministry for Fisheries and the Blue Economy.

Mahatma Gandhi’s great-granddaughter Ashish Lata Ramgobin has been jailed for seven years in prison after being found guilty by a Durban court for her role in a $441,811 fraud and forgery case on Monday.

The 56-year-old Ashish Lata Ramgobin was charged with scamming businessman SR Maharaj after he loaned her $458,310 for allegedly clearing import and Customs duties on a non-existent package from India. He was guaranteed a part of the profits.

Ramgobin is the daughter of renowned human rights activist Ela Gandhi and Mewa Ramgobind, who have both played instrumental roles in reviving the Phoenix Settlement established by Mahatma Gandhi during his tenure in South Africa.

The World Bank Group has charged Nigeria and other African countries to embrace lower-carbon sources of energy in a bid to increase electricity access and also reduce subsidies being applied on fossil fuels.

According to the Bretton Wood institution, regions affiliated to the World bank ought to evaluate themselves on avenues to electricity access, in a economical way.

The South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa is actively pushing for African countries to receive substantial funding from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) to aid recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic affected most Africa Countries economies.
