Uber has closed down Tanzania operations even as President Samia Suluhu is in the United States on a trip that, according to Joe Biden administration officials, is focused on business and investments.

The Tanzanian president is meeting US Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday in Washington.

If not, the whole tech ecosystem in Africa might lose out since there has been disquiet over corporate dysfunction and a toxic work culture at Nigerian tech start-ups. When Nigeria sneezes, Africa does catch a cold and the Flutterwave allegations are just the signs of a pandemic if not handled with care.

For America and its allies to gain Africa’s support on any agenda they have, they have to do a lot more to convince Africans than they have had to prior to the covid-19 menace and the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

The programme which produces briquettes from agricultural waste is expanding beyond Tanzania and has already started in Kenya as United For Green. Cameroon is the other country that the programme is launching next.

To produce organic charcoal, women are trained to convert biomass to charcoal which also happens to be reusable.

CR Hope Foundation partnered with Exeter University to produce the charcoal briquettes. The briquettes are produced using pyrolysis.
